ROLE: Creative Direction, Art Direction, Graphic Design, Production Management
DELIVERABLE: 108-page bi-monthly magazine CLIENT: Army National Guard
GX magazine is a publication produced for the Army National Guard and distributed to the Guard soldiers who serve our country. As Sr. Art Director, I was responsible for creative direction and production process management for this 108-page bimonthly publication.
I conceptualized, directed, and produced photoshoots, and managed relationships with a national network of freelance photographers. Additionally, I hired photo retouchers and commissioned illustrators to produce unique, custom artwork (while carefully managing the budget for each issue.)
I was brought on board as design and production of the magazine were being brought back inside the agency. My role was to build and lead an internal team of designers, and I was additionally responsible for creating and managing workflow processes and collaborating with editors to create schedules and meet deadlines. Additionally, I spear-headed an award-winning redesign of the publication, and we won at least a dozen national and regional design awards for this publication during my tenure.
