iostudio launched GX magazine for the Army National Guard 12 years ago, and has been producing a bimonthly print edition ever since. When approached by the client about creating a fully-interactive digital edition of the magazine for iPad, our first task was to decide which platform to publish on. After researching several out-of-the box options such as MagPlus and Zinnio, we knew we wanted more custom interaction abilities, so we decided to use the powerful Adobe DPS tools which would allow our in-house editorial design staff to produce a fully customizable and totally interactive version of our beloved print publication.
As Sr. Art Director and lead creative, I led the concepting, design, and production of GX digital from the ground up. From deciding on how the reader should navigate the app to designing a tutorial to help them do it, we built the entire digital experience from scratch. Additionally, several of my photoshoots grew into video shoots, and we produced 8 custom videos for the first issue. I worked with our in-house video team to provide art direction for all video and multi-media components of the app as well.
